Code LD

Today, at Alex's school, there was a lock down. All of the parents that were waiting outside to pick up our kiddos were ushered into the library in the dark and told to hide behind the bookcases. All the classrooms were locked and had their lights turned off, all the kids were ushered into protective corners of the rooms. All because there was a Home Invasion in the neighborhood. Two males were on the loose, the cops were chasing them down, and the school was a target destination. All I wanted to do was bolt out of the library down the long hall to Alex's room. But I stayed with all the other parents because I knew the kids thought it was a drill and I didn't want to cause panic. So with forty other parents and the arms of my two friends around me with one friend whispering prayers, we waited 15 minutes in the dark till the cops gave us the all clear. As soon as I got Alex, I hugged him, hard, and whispered my own little prayer. As soon as I could get him settled at home, blissfully aware of the scarey situation, I called Casey because that kind of stress is something both parents handle better together. And I needed him. I needed his strong voice, my Casey.

Prayer: Please God, keep our children and teachers and all of us parents safe from the crazy bastards that are threatening us. Please keep your watchful eye over us all as we go on through the day. Please give me the composer to keep a light voice with Alex to not frighten him, and to hold my fears at bay. Please give me the mental ability to keep extreme fears from taking over my rational thoughts, and please help me to remember that not everyone in the world is a crazy bastard. Please God, remember us and hold us close. Amen.

LDs are always scary. I know it does not compare to the protectiveness of a parent, but being the one adult in a room full of my little students (anywhere from my usual 30 to the dozens I could usher in) makes one feel VERY fierce and protective and...something.
