If only I COULD be a dirty veggie Hippie...

I have a serious love for what my husband fondly calls Hippie music. To be honest, it probably is modern hippie music. I then daydream that I am a Modern Suburban Hippie (an Oxymoron if i ever wrote one). But alas there are too many things about me that disqualify me for Hippiedom.

*I am too chubby to be a Hippie, well really I could be that one chubby dirty hippie with dreads, but isn't he usually a guy?

* I love to GROW vegetables, but even I like bacon way to much.

* I am not against the idea of dreads, in fact I could probably rock it, but I really like to BRUSH my hair. And I really like showers. With Soap. And Shampoo.

* Ummm, Being a Texas republican probably disqualifies me too. Could I start a NEW type of Hippie? RepHippie?

* I couldn't do the no shaving thing, cause when the hair on your legs is long enough to blow in the breeze then it's time to bust out a razor.

Come to think of it, maybe I just like the hairy looking brilliant indie Musicians?

Filling my Ears while I study

Music defines periods in my life. DMB when I was younger. ColdPlay is all about Alex. Queen will always be Casey. Hackers will forever be Gopher Canyon Road. And Sneaker Pimps will be San Fransico.

This is my return to school study playlist. Which will forever be tangled with Algebra, Puritans, Casta Systems and Classification Essays.

This will be forever my first semester back.

Things I am currently Crushing on.

It's Thursday, not Friday (boo!), so I need to share some of my current crushes right now.

The music, the Video, makes every morning awesome

The history, the process of getting into Heaven, the love, Damn Lisa See can put a great spin on a ghost/love story

Coffee, good glorious coffee.

Seriously, love this, I am thinking a self stocking stuffer!

Love this blog and what she did to her kitchen cabinets, I am totally doing this.

This first week back to school has gone great! Alex and I have fallen into a morning routine with out any issues. Homework has been a little bit of a struggle, but that is what the first week of school is usually like. This week has been like a mini vacation for me, next week will send us all back to the grind, Casey on a trip, Alex in school, me back to teaching a handful of days. Our schedule has become incredibly full all ready this year, every single day there is something for someone. I all ready long for Christmas break. But in the mean time, i am going to enjoy the cooler mornings, my family being all together for dinner every night, and mornings to myself.

Music Update

If you need something to work out to or vaccuum to or wiggle to you must listen to Muscles. I especially like Ice Cream. Dooce was right.

I just wanna dance with my shirt off... because it would be fitting and fun and flirty and fabulous.

And Ugly Cassanova is a sweet surprise.

God I love me some music.

Listen and See

Driving down the road the other day Alex declared that the singer for Plain White Tee's was white. He also said that Dave Matthews was black. And he thinks that Justin Timberlake might be a white computer. Swear to God our kid is a genius. So we tested him some more, he got the Chili Peppers right, as well as Coldplay, but he thinks they might have a cold or something cause they talk funny.

He wouldn't believe me, even when I showed him a picture of Dave Matthews, that Dave is white. He did say he thinks Leroy is the one actually singing, because * Duh mom* he is the black one. At this point I don't know if I am pulling his leg or him mine.

Cause that is how we roll yo

Once again the Grand Am broke down, and once again she is in the shop, has been since Monday. So we have a rental, a 300 Charger something. All I know is she is blue, big, and has a CD player. Alex and I have all ready picked out our compilation for the day. Little bit of Gwen, little bit of Chili Peppers, little bit of Monkey Business, and some various Snow Patrol and Imogen Heap singles. Lovely bits of music.

Basil Crows

The sky is cloudy and heavy with grey. Silver greys, pewter greys, white greys. Rain is forthcoming but just needs a bit more heating. The creek is full from the thunderstorm last night, the waters quick and muddy in this shallow path. The grass is covered in more then dew, it like the blades are slicked in wetness, ready for more. The dogs are wet from the knees down and in the case of the Muffins, from the chest down. My small basil plants are getting bigger, greener, their leaves pungent and sharp when I touch them. The smell sticks to my fingers and masks the vanilla sweet of my coffee and lotion. Sweet Basilnilla.

Today is the perfect day for The Counting Crows, music that calls up lingering, silver moonlight, memories of clouds and starry skies, of murmured words and thoughts. Music that calls me back years and years ago, memories that I knew where permanently marked in my heart when they were unfolding. Those memories were made with flannel, kisses, and knowledge of my one Man's love. Sweet Sweet August and Everything After.

The day and the music make me languid and prompt those deep liquidly smooth stretches, arms above the head, neck arched, toes pointed, and muscle loose. I feel content, happiness settles on me like my favorite blanket, my mind is focused, my thoughts ready to move forward steady. This is a perfect feeling.

52 Words

At the beginning of the year I started a project called "52 Words of Me". Each week I take a card from a deck of 54 that has the alphabet on it. I pick one word to sum up that week of the year. And then I squish that week and all my thoughts and feelings onto the tiny canves. It has been so much fun finding ways to make that space bigger, use up my mountain of scraps, and filter down to what was important in that week. Love this mini project.

My neighbor let me borrow her Gwen CD and man oh man, I am feeling Yummy Baby!

Welcome to 1995 and everything after.

Casey decided to finish cleaning up his office today which really means it meant me getting the rest of my boxes out of his closet. So now I have an additional 4 boxes sitting my in craft room. Oh but the treasure trove they hold, all my CD's. To think that I had gotten rid of them, a couple hundred have been sitting in boxes in our house, they made the trip from San Diego to San Antonio and this whole time I thought that they might be taking up space in a landfill somewhere. Sifting through the stacks and stacks of CD cases immediately made me giddy and filled me with music moments from highschool and college. One box I know hasn't been opened since 1999 was still taped shut wit Nicole's Desk scrawled across it, inside lingered many many CD's, a pair of UGG slippers I didn't know I had, candles, incense sticks, a music box full of rose buds from various bouquets given to me and a flyer on daycares.

To think I have have been living all these years forgetting about my Color Me Bad CD, oh the angst this caused my Dad when he bought it and played I wanna Sex You Up in the car on the way home. I think that was when I knew he didn't really listen to my music. But low and behold, it was my Dad who introduced me to Chris Issak, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Windham Hill.

As I make my stacked playlist for the rest of the day, I keep running across empty cases and it makes me wonder where that Cd ran off too. Did I leave it in my CD player of my Del Sol when we turned it in? Did it fall out of my car as we did Chinese Fire Drills on College Blvd? Did I lose it to a CD snitching friend from my sorority? Where or where did my K's Choice CD go to?

So now it is time to switch it up from Ashley MacIssac to Trainspotting to The Crow soundtrack to Baby Fox to Beacon Street No Doubt to Suzanne Vega to the Doors. Blissful Music Moments.
